Steve Williams is a wrestler that is described perfectly by his nickname. “Dr. Death” made a career out of beating the every living hell out of his opponents. After a brief run for All Japan Pro Wrestling in the early 1980s, which included Williams teaming with fellow legend Terry Gordy against the Funks in Terry Funk’s retirement match, Steve headed back to the states, competing for the UWF promotion, and amassing a long winning streak in the United States. However, Williams had his greatest success in the Land of the Rising Sun, specifically All Japan, where he had many great matches with the likes of Kenta Kobashi, Toshiaki Kawada, and Mitsuharu Misawa. In 1993, he and Kobashi met in an absolute war that almost saw Kobashi’s head come off multiple times. In 1994, he ended the legendary first reign of Misawa, and at last became the Triple Crown Champion. His first challenge was Kobashi, whom he defeated once again. After losing the belts, he made his way to the WWF, where he was in line for a big push until the Brawl for All. After a brief and horrendous run in WCW, Steve returned to All Japan after the NOAH split, and competed once again for the Triple Crown, though he wouldn’t regain it. Since 2003 or so, he battled throat cancer, and defeated it many times before it returned one last time, this time Steve couldn’t fight if off. Steve passed away December 30th. Steve Williams will be remembered as one of the greatest gaijin competitors in the history of Japan. His …

I can’t beleive that I just now realized why it’s called a doctor bomb… I’m pretty sure I’ve even watched this video before. As well as several other videos of Steve Williams using that move. Oh well, I guess I’m just slow.

I met doc a few times, before and after he found out he had cancer. He was always smiling and laughing, and always doing stuff for his kids. He spent the last few years in the town where I’m from, when news broke that he had past it broke the hearts of many. To wrestling fans he was a bad guy, he was a good guy, to us that would see him around town, we was simply doc.

I dig that Jack Swagger uses some of Dr. Death’s moveset. Williams was sorely misused.

Ranked Number # 1 in the 1990 Prowrestling illustrated Strongest Wrestlers Top 50. He Pressed the near 300 pound Terry Bam Bam 8 times at the 1989 GAB Pressed the 350 Big Bubba (Big Bossman) Rogers. He was stronger than he looked and that’s scary. R.I.P Big Man

You never let the 3 count come.. even if it’s a kick out. But I knew, I just had a feeling you’d show it during the backdrop hold.
