Have you seen the recent video of Joe Rogan teaching Georges St. Pierre how to do a “turning sidekick” ? He advocates NOT turning the knee to the floor and making a pure “back kick” (some call “mule” kick) This is not how I learned, yet his technique is ferocious. He does recommend for lower targets, not head range. I have always found turning sidekicks to be lame and back kicks to be superior. I think its the chambering that makes either one successful. your thoughts?

@iamroxasowns13 That’s how a modern side kick is done. It is to keep the front of your torso (chest, core and stomach) out of range of a counterattack, specifically a back kick or spin hook. If your torso is still facing side ways or forward during the kick, your opponent can successfully counter attack you with his own kick during your side kick.

I have a question, why is your body a bit turned facing the back of the room, My Master says lean back and keep your body side ways, What you did looked a bit like a Back kick, I;m not trying to insult your techniques or anything

I’m glad you also chose an Art that teaches to be aggressive, and calm. Taekwondo is very powerful and has great defense. I love this kick, and the Flying Side kick. I hate how people get cocky because they’re in MMA!>:(

In a way, the side kick is stomping sideways while you move towards your opponent, right?

Doesn’t kicking like that reduce speed? I thought you were supposed to increase power by increasing fast twitch muscles?

@AbdulazizJam Well, when I do the push kick, it does nearly no damage at all. So I use it merely to unbalance and create a safe distance. Therefore, that makes the side kick a stronger kick. Correct me if I am wrong, anyone.
