@MultiFred50 This is a great example of demonstration…not self defense. If it was in fact, a practical application of self defense both version of Taekwondo are taught, it’d be quite boring…and to add…a little gory.

  8. MultiFred50 says:

this is a good example of unrealistic self defense

@TheNinjutsuninja remember this is just a demo by to promote ITF Taekwon-Do in South Korea (where it is pretty much absent) and to improve relations between the north and south. It’s been made to look flashy as anything to make it look impressive. if it were practical self-defense then it’d be a bit boring to watch. someone gets poked in the eye then punched in the throat and the victim runs away to safety. boring!

Hahahaha, our club would be so happy if we could do half as good as them in doing a demo!

To the comment regarding Taekwondo used by korean military. I have spent 1/3 of my life in korea, where I was born, and while their military requires everyone to have a black belt in Taekwondo, but their version is very different from the stuff I’ve seen in the US, which places much emphasis on sportsmanship.

It’s just a demonstration…this is never how they would fight for real. It all comes down to hand to hand combat in the end, which is not what they will demonstrate, because it’s boring to a big -unschooled in martial arts- crowd. To martial artists it would look great.

@numbnuts667 @numbnuts667 You will never be able to kick a knife out an experience knife fighters hand like that….it is obvious you have zero experience in knife fighting. The knife is NEVER static but always moving…
and yes I do know what a limb destruction is Indonesian Silat has some of the best limb destructions I have ever seen

  17. majin2912 says:

The only thing I don’t agree with is the shuto to the mid-section. Too dense to do any real harm.

  18. numbnuts667 says:

@nhunt001 Have you ever seen what “limb destruction” can actually do? It sends a massive shock through the limb disabling it for a shot time and temporarily negating the opposite appendage! Punch yourself really hard in the forearm/bicep or even the inner thigh…. bet if your holding something you will loose grip! now imagine if your not expecting it. A kick to the arm would disarm just about anyone of a knife!

i see some self defence techniques, but mostly (in my opinion that is) its all flashy demonstration, in real life, kicks like that aren’t gonna cut it, as slippery floors, tight spaces, adrenaline, will MOST likely prohibit you from doing such fancyness, i would prefer to go hardcore self defense like krav maga, but anyways, nice demo =)

  20. storyacoustic says:

Thiese are fun shows to watch, but calling them “self-defence” is a little bit of a misnomer. These are more like Jackie Chan fight scenes than self-defense demonstrations.

  21. majin2912 says:

This might be nicely choreographed and not totally real but these girls have had serious training and could seriously defend themselves if need be. Look at the skill and technique. Not fake!

  22. nhunt001 says:

@dronin87 no TKD is practiced in the korean military but Tukong Moosul is what is taught for combative applications

  23. nhunt001 says:

if you think you can just kick the knife out of somebody’s hand your fooling yourself…Choregraphed and sensationalized BS. Looked good, but overall it was showmanship not self defense.

  24. BCCmma64bang says:

choreographed and nothing like the real life

wish i could jump that well
