Totally agree with you dude. I’ve been doing TKD since I was a little kid. I think marital arts should be taught in the schools to give kids self confidence and respect for themselves and others.

whilst the move casey employed may be over kill he was also outnumbered, untrained (? he had halfway decent blocks) and no idea how many he would have to deal with in the mob surrounding the incident i think
Al has it right best to run or even avoid the potential conflict but its a given he had to do something due to long period of abuse he suffered

@Brovocop um mate learn some history traditions such as the shaolin school started their school due to them being monks meditating alot and their bodies suffered for it, so they started their school incorparating ways to strenghthen their bodies and mind/spirt at the same rate. their whole school of thought was not to use it as traditional warmongers but a means to strengthen themselves with the added benefit of being able to repel persecution

I listen to the whole vid and it still screams of ignorance. What to do in those situations. Martial Arts was based on fighting alone. You can say all the Ìm taking it to learn defence`, but the bare bones of it is that you truly love fighting.

I gotta be honest, people with opinions like these make me angry. The kid was 15 years old. He was backed up to a wall and the bully had people backing him up. Yet, you come out here and play arm chair quarterback. I have yet to meet a martial artist who uses the proper force. That`s including the police. Your ego sickens me.

@iofferdvdsforless You obviously haven’t listened to my whole presentation here as I quite clearly state in this clip and on my blogs, that Casey did the right thing in my opinion. I am using this clip to draw parallels with other self defence situations where running away is one option – and I say ONE option.
It is still an option for Casey – it would prevent any further abuse at this particular incident, but as you rightly pointed out, it would not solve his problems long term

easypea1 why don’t you answer my response? You seem like you’re for the bully than Casey Heynes, you just don’t go run away from the problem because if Casey did he’ll get picked on more from Richard and his friends because they’ll see him as an easy target everytime especially on camera. Now, no bullies like Richard or Richards friends will pick on him or fight him anymore good job Casey for ending the problem.

easypea1 You’re saying Casey could have caused extreme damage by throwing Richard on the ground, yes possible but then again richard could have knocked Casey out by 1 punch and caused him brain damage…I don’t get your point. You’re also telling kids like Casey that are being bullied to run away? Richard got what he deserved because as you see his friends in the background will see Casey as an easy target if Casey didn’t do anything. Now nobody is going to mess with him after the incident =)

@TechInfoal Also, avoiding the fight with words is a good idea and what I support. Fighting is a last resort thing.

@easypea1 I think that is more useful in the streets with actual dangerous people. In a school like this other students will make fun of him for running and at that age people are more vulnerable to peer pressure which would make it worst for him and would make the bully more confident with other people. Casey did go too far with the last move, the power he put was too much but he stopped in the end. Also a bully has to learn a lesson to, before he gets more hurt later in life.

If he could have done a lot moe and a lot less, then he probably got it a lot less. And Casey already did his share of running away.

“could have don alot less” yes ofcourse he could, if he where a selfe defence expert. A “normal” human dont react like that. A normal human react with more force then needed just to ensure survival. Especily if its a situation you didnt pick your self. Dont forget the mob mentality too, that little guy had a few guys behind him.
This is indeed 100% selfe defence for someone who isnt trained in selfe defence. From someones point of view who are an expert, its clearly use of over violence. =)

I guess there’s a fine line between fighting and self defense. However Casey has now conditioned this particular bully to leave him alone so its all good. A very fine viewpoint you have.

@baccus14 As I’m using this footage to draw parallels with generic self defence situations – when I talk about “running”, I use that as one typical option for general situations. However, in my opinion, Casey could have run – anywhere – to avoid the immediate threat – even if that meant pushing or charging over his aggressor. I’m not saying that is the best answer in this particular circumstance or the best solution to stop the bullying, but for self defence in general

You are wrong , run were ?
You cant run but you can move to another place go to a new school.
But the problem is the tetchers that allowed the kids to do this as it whas going on for years.

Casey did the right thing. If he would of just push his attacker away and ran, the bullying would just continued, but instead he STOPPED the bullying all together.

@billysue2,
Sending a kid to a traditional school is not the only option. Unschooling, home schooling, tutoring, clubs, study groups, & even alternative forms of school like Montessori provide alternative ways to rear a child.
“too immature to know what’s good for them” Not in all cases. My 10 month old daughter doesn’t know a jacket will prevent sickness, but she knows when she needs food. Similarly teens are more likely to pursue a career they enjoy if we don’t force them into another one.

@truthadvocate sending a kid to school is not bullying them, its called rearing them when theyre too immature to know whats good for them.

This is what happens when you force many people into a space that have not voluntarily chosen to be there. Just like violence in prison. Essentially every child is bullied by adults when they are forced to go to school, sit in a chair, and listen to lectures all day. So why wouldn’t they emulate the adults in their life by bullying each other. There are much better ways to prepare children for life. My child will not be going to public school.
