In one way its good that he is giving out free lessons on the Internet for those who have no money or cant get to a martial art studio. But in a other way its bad, people are watching this thinking that they know praying mantis which they dont! And also, people are watching this and say bad things about the art because they dont understand it.

  9. kinjk says:

Now, I could be mistaken but that Mountain Fist looks just like the Phoenix Eye Fist I use in Flying Crane.

In Kempo, it’s called ‘Ram’s Head’. I never knew that you had to be able to do pushups on it. I guess that would be true for every hand position.

my sifu primarily teaches mantis. or I should at least say that’s what he’s trained the most in.

  14. big8templer says:

ginger fist… what style do you learn? Here we are talking about mantis fist name. I guess there are some other name for this fist in different style of kung fu, but in mantis, i am sure that we only have one name for it.

  15. ilyearer says:

my sifu calls it a “ginger fist.” I don’t think there’s only one name for any particular move in chinese martial arts. some may be way more common, but that doesn’t make them they only name for that move.

  16. HappyPeach568 says:

    i am chinese too!

  17. big8templer says:

    Yes I am Chinese.

  18. HappyPeach568 says:

    you sound cool!
    Are you Chinese too?

  19. big8templer says:

    1. in Chinese it’s not called mountain fist, but plum blossom(Mei Hua ??) Fist. mountian step, no mountain fist.

    2. your thumb for that fist is wrong. plum blossom fist is most for basic training and to get a very important feeling in Mei Hua Tang Lang Quan. you can use that knuckle, trying to KO your opponent, but that’s not the fighting theory of mantis.
